Trekking in Morocco: A day trip to Ourika
Experience the splendid landscape of the Ourika Valley in a single day. Visit a water fall and see the Berber village of Setti Fatma.
The Ourika Valley is easily one of the most popular day trips in Morocco. We’ll start our excursion after breakfast at 9.00 am when we pick up you from your hotel or riad.
We’ll then drive across arid landscape to get to the Berber villages. Along the way you’ll get some stunning scenic views of the Atlas Mountains and the Moroccan countryside. Please be aware though that the first half of the drive is not as scenic as the second half.
While driving down the valley, the first village we will come to is called Dar Caid Ouriki and includes some lovely architecture. As we continue, we’ll get to experience even more of the Ourika Valley’s splendid landscape. At the end of the valley lies Setti Fatma, a very primitive but attractive and picturesque village. In Setti Fatma there is a wonderful Zaouia “sanctuary” of decorated earth.
After 2 hours driving from Marrakech, we arrive in the Ourika Valley proper. We can spend our time taking in the views, or maybe walking for a few hours in the valley itself. There is even time to visit a beautiful waterfall , but the walk will take us 2 hours to get there.
In the afternoon we will come back to Marrakech.
