Moroccan Tours: trek from Imlil, to Mount Toubkal to Erg Chebbi and the Dades Gorge.
The perfect combination of trekking in the High Atlas and the Moroccan Sahara. Jebel Toubkal (4167m) is the highest mountain in North Africa.
The hike to the summit is challenging, but requires no mountaineering experience and the panoramic view from the summit makes the hard work worthwhile.
Day 1 : Marrakech / Imlil / Toubkal Refuge
Upon arrival to the little village of Imlil, we’ll begin our trek. Heading to the Mizane Valley. We first get through Armed village and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch & will continue east crossing the flood plains, our route will take us along mule tracks up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. While crossing the river we eventually will get to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims from all over the world. From there the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline and the Toukbal Refuge (3206m), where we’ll stop for the night.
Approx walking duration is from 4 to 5 hours.
Day 2 : Toubkal Summit / Imlil
Early in the morning we’ll start trekking towards the Jebel Toukbal summit. Our route will take us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in some parts. The amazing views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. When we’ll reach the summit we’ll see that the views across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking & fabulously beautiful. From up there, unrestricted views in every direction, from Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and to the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara in the south. We will retrace our steps when we return down the mountain and head back towards Imlil where we’ll stay in a local guesthouse for the overnight.
Day 3 : Imlil / Dades Gorge
Today we’ll drive towards the Moroccan desert. First we’ll cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass through the High Atlas mountains. We will pass through many Berber villages, and once in the desert, we’ll discover the riverside oasis and barren hillsides that are clustered with Kasbahs. After the lunch break we will drive farther to the Roses Valley enjoying the beautiful views of Dades valley, known as The thousand Kasbahs Valley. We will stay in Dades for the overnight.
Day 4 : Dades / Todra Gorge / Merzouga / Erg Chebbi
After breakfast we’ll drive to the Todra Gorge where we’ll shortly stop there to enjoy the site then we’ll continue driving to “Auberge in merzouga” located in the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Upon arrival, we’ll be riding camels into the dunes, where we’ll discover the most beautiful sunset & enjoy a fantastic diner. The night will be spent in Berber tents.
Day 5 : Erg Chebbi / Marrakech
We will begin the day by enjoying the most beautiful sunrise then after having breakfast at the camp site we will ride the camels back to the auberge. From there it will be quite a long day driving back to Marrakech, via the amazing Tichka pass.
On some occasions local weather conditions may require the trekking route to be altered to ensure safety.
